Density Examples Density The definition of density, which is scientifically referred to as the volumetric mass density, is the amount of a substance by mass per unit volume. It's understood to be the amount of a particular substance in a fixed measurement, which can be measured in a variety of different units. The density of a substance changes depending on the temperature and pressure. Solids and liquids don't usually vary that much in their density depending on those factors;the change in density based on temperature or pressure can be dramatically different for gases sinceincreasing the pressure on an object decreases its volume, increasing its density. The correlation is also true that an increase in the temperature of a substance usually decreases its density by increasing its volume. Examples of Density: 1. Oil and Water Don't Mix It's a known fact that oil and water don't mix, but what many people may not know is that the density of oil is what makes it float on top of water. In the kitchen, oil and vinegar don't mix either, and you may have seen a bottle of salad dressing with a slimy-looking layer on top. The oil is less dense than the vinegar, too. But a very serious, real-world application of oil's lighter density than water is in the ocean in the event of an oil spill. We haven't quite perfected the technology, but scientists have already developed clean-up systems that scrape or soak that top layer of oil off the ocean's surface in the event of an oil spill. That oil is still wasted and can cause lasting damage to the environment, but scientists are able to reduce the harmful impacts by removing much of that layer from the top. 2. Helium Balloons Helium balloons lend a festive air to parties by floating above the ground, a phenomenon which occurs due to helium's density. Since it is less dense than the air around it, the balloon floats. This characteristic is important in weather balloons and at one time was important in dirigible and blimp flights. While helium is the second most abundant element in the universe, its density makes it pretty rare on Earth. We actually dig it out of the ground rather than extract it from the atmosphere. 3. Archimedes and Eureka! There's a fun legend about the discovery of the principle of density. In ancient Greece, Archimedes had been asked by the king to find out if his crown was solid gold or if the king had been cheated with a gold-silver mixture. But he had to do it without breaking or destroying the crown. Archimedes struggled with the problem, but finally solved it when he got in his bathtub at the end of a long day. When he got in the tub, some of the water sloshed over the side, because he had a greater density than the water. His body pushed that water level higher until some of it overflowed the tub due to density. This same idea is why boats or planks of wood float, but rocks do not. 4. Icebergs Icebergs present a unique problem for ocean-going ships that travel into the Arctic and Antarctic circles. Because the density of water changes as the temperature drops, ice floats. Also, icebergs are made of frozen freshwater, whereas the cold water around them is salty sweater; salt water has a higher density than freshwater, so combined with the frozen properties of the freshwater, icebergs float. The problem for these ships is the position of the iceberg in the water. Some estimates say that less than ten percent of the iceberg isactually visible above the surface, and the remainder can extend out dangerously before the ship is closer to the tip. This is the origin of the warning, "That's just the tip of the iceberg."

To help me understand and analyze a different culture, I watched the film Selena. The film tells the life story of the famous singer Selena Quintanilla-Pà ©rez. Not only does it just tell personal stories from her life, it also gives insight to the Mexican-American culture. Q5: What kinds of successful enterprises can be observed among China-born immigrants in the GTA, and how can these enterprises be described? The types of effective businesses in the study that could be observed among China-born immigrants in the GTA were skilled, specialized or useful and functional personal or home related services and businesses. For instances, the practical and skillful of HAC home services, real estate brokerage, fast printing of Chinese business cards and fast food advertisings, accounting consulting, dating services, immigration consulting, Chinese supermarket, and hair salon. These businesses or services in the study were realistic, workable and valuable to most homes and households or personal applications in GTA. Implication of this finding was that most of these first generation China-born entrepreneur immigrants’ enterprises were small family business or personal skilled trades. They focused on practical and useful home or household and person al businesses which were tied to the challenges of raising funds for startup. These China-born immigrants were new and first generation immigrants in Canada, and they had no families, relatives or networks in GTA (Guo, 2013; P. Li Li, 2013). As the first generation immigrant entrepreneurs with limited networks and resource, China-born immigrant entrepreneur raised their capital for startup merely from their personal savings or family loans (Azmat, 2013; Guo, 2013). A Life-Changing Event Essay Most news stories one hears just goes in one ear and out the other. It may resonate with some for a few minutes where that person feels devastated from the world producing cruel events. But, for something to change your opinion and you learn from mistakes, you have to endure the action and realize how it affects you and the surrounding people. Typically, most news revolves around negative stories and that is why that reaction stays with you for a few seconds. There is so much negative going on it is tough to remember all of it. When going on with life these news stories continually accumulate but not one time have I actually understood that anything similar could happen to me. One of these events did not happen to me personally, but someone in my community in the same age group was affected. His name was Francis Duddy, a junior who attended Donovan Catholic. On February 8th, 2014 he was killed in a drunken driving accident by his best friend Connor Hanifin. I did not hold a personal relationship with either of these fellow high school students; but I was attending the same party they were. There was no doubt that Nanling was a good place for traveling during the spring season. We planned to go to the top of Nanling in order to enjoy the wonderful view. We hired a local driver to take us up to the top. Before going up Nanling, the driver asked us to make a mental preparation, because we would have a very tough process. What does he mean by that? ,  I asked myself. Anyway, I was curious and excited of it. We were on a minibus and it headed to the top of the mountain. The road was tough and narrow like a snake that was coiling up. The mountain rolled up like that all the way to the top. The minibus drove on such a road that make me feel like it was off-track and at any second would drop from the edge of the road. That was what the driver was talking about! Oh my goodness! I couldnt help holding my breath. My right hand was covering my left hand, and I was praying to God that bless us with arriving safely to the top. I was struggling with myself to calm down. In the meanwhile, my mom had already been uncomfortable because of the carsickness. I turned around holding my mothers hand and I comforted my mother and talked to her, Well be fine, mom. And we will enjoy the wonderful view on the top. Try to think about the moment when we get to the top. We are standing on the top of the highest mountain. All of the beautiful views will be absorbed by our eyes. We will suck the fresh air and enjoy the comfortable spring wind. What a wonderful moment we are going to spend! Just hold on ten more minutes. The happiness is coming. You can do it. And we all can do it!  . We were shaking in the minibus the entire time because of the tough road. There was no doubt that it was making us even more nervous. But fortunately, we finally arrived safely to the top. And we all breathed a sigh of relief. However, we were stocked by our views. The mountain was very quiet and spring was brushing over the place. The peach blossom in the branches were shyly flashing a light red, a great temptation, like love was covered on the branches flashing shining colors. When the breeze contacted with my face, like my mothers hand gently touching my face. I liked that feeling, with coolness and so relaxing. Looking toward the distance, the hills rose straight up from the ground as if they were waving at us. They seemed to welcome us. Nearby was a green forest. A clear river looked liked a snake was wriggling in the forest. Those big trees just liked green umbrellas protecting the earth from the sunshine. We did enjoy a wonderful view on the top of Nanling! This trip was breathtaking and exciting, wasnt it? When we were on the minibus, nobody knew if we would arrive safely to the top or drop down. We were suffered by our fear and nervousness. If we give up and return, we could not enjoy such a wonderful view at the top. But we didnt. We all defeated our fear and nervousness. We tasted the sweet after the bitter. It was such an unknown experience that make me still remember it clearly.

The Net community exists and thrives because ofeffective written communication, as on the net all you haveavailable to express yourself are typewritten words. If youcannot express yourself well in written language, you eitherlearn more effective ways of communicating, or get lost in theshuffle. Netspeak is evolving on a national and international level. Thetechnological vocabulary once used only by computer programmersand elite computer manipulators called Hackers, has spread toall users of computer networks. The language is currently spokenby people on the Internet, and is rapidly spilling over intoadvertising and business. The words online, network, andsurf the net are occuring more and more frequently in ournewspapers and on television. If youre like most Americans,youre feeling bombarded by Netspeak. Television advertisers,newspapers, and international businesses have jumped on theInformation Superhighway bandwagon, making the Net moreaccessible to large numbers of not-entirely-technically-orientedpeople. As a result, technological vocabulary is entering intonon-technological communication.
